Jamie Ruddy
Co‑Founder & Creative Lead

A graduate of both NYU's film school and ITP program, and a Council Member at the World Experience Organization, Jamie is a writer, filmmaker and creator of immersive experiences, with a particular focus on integrating narrative with technology. She also has a tall gray cat called Myshka who will arch her back and bounce sideways when she wants to play.

Jamie started her career writing a screenplay for hire for Universal Studios. Since then, she has won screenwriting awards, directed award-winning short films, and created immersive experiences for companies including Amazon, Asics, AT&T, BMW, Ford, IBM, Lincoln Center/New York Philharmonic, Modcloth, Tezos and Warner Brothers.

She was the Head of Story on WILD: A Safari Experience for Radical Media and Illuminarium. As a lead creative on this project, she was able to combine her skills as a writer, a filmmaker and an immersive storyteller, bridging three of the disciplines she believes are essential in the best experiential entertainment. WILD also led to the incredible opportunity to write and concept for Sphere in Las Vegas.

Since her graduate degree in interactive tech and design, Jamie has focused on helping audiences “live the story.” In addition to traditional mediums, she integrates game design, indexical storytelling, spatial storytelling and/or branching narrative, exploring ways to create fully immersive stories with an emotional impact. She is technology and medium agnostic, working with every element from actors to VR/AR/XR, physical builds, gaming engines and 3D animation.

Jamie met her business partner Erin Upson on a Warner Bros. project. Jamie was the writer, Erin the producer. They teamed up again and launched Sideways Kitty, a company that uses technology in creative ways to design narrative-driven immersive experiences.

Erin Upson
Co‑Founder & Business Lead

A Hollywood veteran and UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, Erin develops and produces creative projects with the goal of delivering the most entertaining and commercially viable product to the widest possible audience.

After starting her Hollywood career at Creative Artists Agency, Erin joined Ridley Scott at Scott Free Productions, rising to Vice President and helping develop more than 20 studio films. Her focus then, as it remains now, was to choose the strongest story, hone it to its full potential, and then work with a multi-disciplinary creative and business team to produce it in the most entertaining and profitable way possible.

Her credits include co-producing A Good Year starring Russell Crowe and In Her Shoes starring Cameron Diaz. In her native North Carolina, Erin continued her pursuit of unique stories and business opportunities, overseeing production of digital content and documentaries for Thunder Mountain Media.

She has worked with some of the top agents and producers in Hollywood, negotiated with entertainment attorneys from Beverly Hills to Milan, set up projects with major broadcasters and film studios, and developed strong relationships with talent – from the famous (Russell Crowe throws a mean bocce ball) to the infamous (ask about her Hells Angels t-shirt).

Erin has always looked towards the future, intrigued by what has never been done before. This sense of entrepreneurship and adventure helped her see the incredible potential of the new forms of narrative Jamie was exploring, drawing her into the world of immersive experiences. She’s now excited to help define the future of branding and entertainment.
